What is the MUGH™ procedure ?

How Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ Works

The ultimate benefit of Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ is to always provide you, the patient, with the most natural appearance, the greatest density and the most comfort while permanently restoring your hair. When properly planned, this in-office medical procedure is designed to minimize the visual signs of progressive, long-term hair loss.

We do this by incorporating a blend of surgical technologies, along with an array of different-size grafts according to what best fits the individual patient’s needs. This blend allows us to achieve the desired density and natural appearance expected by people today in the fewest visits possible, limiting inconvenience and cost.

Micro and macro multi-unit grafting involves transferring hairs as they are found in natural groupings. These multi-unit groupings are used to create a natural hairline that is consistent with the patient’s age and realistic desires. This process is constrained only by the density and the quality of the hair in the patient’s donor region, extremes in contrast between hair and scalp color, fine hair texture and limited curl. The grafts are inserted into pre-cut micro and mini slits that are strategically designed to aesthetically improve the density of your existing hair, lower the hairline, and fill in balding areas.

How Multi-Unit Hair Grafting Works

Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ provides the patient with the most natural appearance and the greatest density per procedure versus Micro and Follicular Unit grafting. The benefit of Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ to the patient is that more hair can be transplanted per procedure, meaning fewer procedures are needed to reach a patient’s hair restoration goal.

How It Works

PAI Medical Group developed and trademarked this extraordinary procedure, which uses a blend of surgical technologies, and an array of different-sized hair groupings (grafts) to best fit the individual patient’s needs. This advanced technique achieves the desired density and natural appearance expected by people today in the fewest visits possible, limiting inconvenience and cost. The table below contrasts the three prevailing hair transplant techniques used around the world today and the robotic hair transplant system.

Hair Transplants

Let us help you restore your hair naturally and permanently

The PAI Medical Procedure

The procedure typically takes from 3 to 5 hours to complete. During this time, multiples of thousands of hairs will be moved from your donor site to your thinning or balding area(s). Great care is taken to ensure that the procedure is completed in the shortest time possible because of hair attrition. Hair attrition is a condition where some of the hair that is transplanted “dies-off” before it is transplanted back into the scalp. Typically, procedures lasting longer than 6 hours result in a high percent of hair attrition.

During the hair transplant procedure permanent hairs are harvested from the back and sides of the head. The hairs that are transplanted are cut very short before they are transplanted. The short hair and the attached papilla (hair seed) are then placed in the thinning or balding areas. Here they will begin to “take-root.” Generally, the short hairs -not the hair seeds- will shed within a few weeks following the procedure. Then, the transplanted hair seeds we took out will begin making and growing new hairs. These new hairs will begin appearing 3 to 5 months after the procedure. Because of the overabundance of permanent hairs in these areas, removal of this hair does not negatively affect a patient’s look. A suture will be used to close the donor site. The suture is hidden under the hair in the back and sides (note: the suture may be more visible in patients with especially short hair). The suture is then removed ten days following the procedure.
With PAI Medical Group’s grafting procedures, there are no bandages attached after the procedure. Patients enjoy this sense of freedom and can immediately see the short hairs that have been transplanted.

SCALP

The most common occurrence of hair loss on the scalp is a hereditary problem known as pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia and it generally causes loss on the top of the head. By nature, it is considered a progressive, degenerative problem. It is highly probable that if a person’s parent experienced hair loss, the child will too.

Hair transplantation to the scalp is the most popular type of hair restoration procedure performed today; however, not all surgeons use the same techniques. PAI Medical Group uses a unique combination of MICRO, Follicular Unit and our trademarked  Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ technique to transplant, in one procedure, as much as three times the number of hair than a typical Follicular Unit procedure. Patients look forward to a natural look with fewer procedures.

PRP Procedures

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the newest hair loss therapy. PRP Hair Loss therapy works by using the platelet-rich plasma found in your blood. PRP is the naturally occurring blood substance containing growth factors which promotes cell growth and tissue repair. PRP injections have been used for many years to treat injuries, and have become a mainstay of sports medicine. The plasma, which is full of growth stimulants, is extracted and injected into the scalp to revive lazy cells and stimulate and re-energize hair growth thereby making hair thicker. PRP Hair Loss therapy is performed by a trained nurse and is available at select PAI clinics.

Also, at select clinics, Micro-needling with the same PRP is injected into the skin on the face, neck and décolleté (upper part area and neckline of a woman’s torso). Micro-needling of the PRP helps introduce the same growth factors into the skin, thereby maximizing collagen growth and tissue repair. Positive results are usually visible in a few weeks. The process is usually repeated a few times for beneficial results are maximized.

Laser Hair Therapy

Laser Hair Therapy (LHT) is a new, non-intrusive and non-surgical procedure to promote and strengthen hair growth naturally. Also known as Low Level Laser Therapy, it is a method of treatment using cool low-level laser energy, or ‘soft’ laser light to effectively treat thin, fine, or damaged hair.

Laser light uses the scientific principle of photo biotherapy. This process occurs when cells absorb light and repair themselves. Laser light penetrates deep into the tissues of the scalp, stimulating microcirculation of blood supply, cell metabolism and protein synthesis. Clinical studies suggest that this cellular and sub-cellular activity can break down the collection of DHT helping to stop hair loss. It also helps increase the width of the hair shaft, thereby creating a visual increase of overall hair density.

Laser Hair Therapy works for all types of hair loss

  • Stimulates hair follicles and increases blood flow to the scalp
  • Helps to stop hair loss and thickens existing hair
  • The laser energy works on all areas of the scalp
  • When used post-operation with the PAI Medical Multi- Unit Hair Grafting™, the newly transplanted hair follicles will tend grow faster

A PAI hair loss expert will review and discuss with you a personalized assessment of your desired outcome to combine this with one of the PAI Medical hair restoration procedures or as a stand-alone procedure to benefit your existing hair.

SMP Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a hair camouflage technique that can visually repair, hide, or conceal specific hair loss areas and merge with existing hair follicles to create a fuller hair image. It can be used to create a buzzed-hair visual effect to mask hair loss areas of the scalp. It can also be used to mask lost hair within a scarred region and fill-in areas so that it appears much less visible. SMP is an ideal solution for simulating hair follicles.

This procedure is available in select PAI Medical clinics. A PAI hair loss consultant can review with you its use for your specific hair loss issue.

ARTAS (FUE) Procedure

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplant technique that involves the extraction of individual hair follicles to be transplanted to areas of the scalp where hair loss occurs. The ARTAS procedure involves the use of a computer-automated, yet physician-controlled, machine that will map out the donor hair to be removed, by individual follicles, and extract them for use by the medical team to transplant to the hair loss areas.

A PAI Medical hair loss consultant will help you understand this procedure and discuss it as a possible solution for your hair loss issues.
